Buffalo police are on the scene of a shooting on the 700 block of E. Amherst St. near Suffolk St.
A 31-year-old man died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
It happened around 6 a.m.
Police say the man was shot while he was inside a vehicle, which then drove through a fence and into the side of a vacant house.
Buffalo firefighters had to stabalize the structure while police began investigating what happened.
Our crew saw investigators place several evidence markers on the street by what appeared to be shell casings on the road.
Neighbors tell News 4 they heard upwards of 15 shots fired.
“How sad. Early in the morning, and we were asleep,” said Tisa Rogers, who was staying with a friend who lives in the area overnight.
“Thought I was having a bad dream,” she said.
The gunshots were not a dream, but they did lead to a true nightmare for the family of the 31-year-old man who died.
His family members were gathering at the scene throughout the morning, but declined to comment to News 4, asking for privacy at this time.
Neighbors who spoke to News 4 said something has to be done to make the streets safer in that area.
“My message is just be safe, be aware and be careful. And pray,” Rogers added.
