Medina woman dead after driver runs stop sign

GENESEE COUNTY, NY (WIVB) - A Medina woman is dead following a two-car accident on Route 33 and Wortendyke Road intersection Friday night, according to the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.

Dispatchers say they received the call reporting the accident at 6:16 p.m.

Irene B. Cichocki was pronounced dead at the scene after her 2018 Kia Sportage was struck on the passenger side by a 2016 Honda Pilot operated by Lauren D. Power of Scotch Plains, NJ.

According to the report, Power was approaching a stop sign on Wortendyke Road where it met with State Route 33. She ran the stop sign and struck Cichocki's Kia causing the vehicles to go off the south shoulder of Route 33 and overturn several times before coming to a rest in the front yard of a residence.

Power was issued a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign. Three passengers in Power's vehicle were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for minor injuries sustained during the crash.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Deputies say alcohol and drugs are not considered contributing factors to the crash at this time.
