BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) - Two Buffalo Bridges and some nearby park land now carry the name of a late Erie County Sheriff who passed away in June.
The Bailey Avenue Bridges, which cross the Buffalo River and Cazenovia Creek, were recently demolished.
The new ones, built in their place, were dedicated on Saturday in honor of Sheriff Thomas Higgins.
The adjacent Bailey Peninsula Habitat Park was also named for Higgins.
Higgins, who was also a Korean War veteran, served a total of 42 years in law enforcement. He served for 12 years as Erie County's Sheriff.
The old bridges were constructed in 1930 - the same year Higgins was born
