CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Local leaders hope some funding from New York State will make a busy Cheektowaga road safer.
A new traffic system is going up at the intersection of Boxwood Lane and French Road.
The South Line Fire District will be able to control it to stop traffic when they respond to emergencies.
"It's a new design," said Cheektowaga town supervisor Diane Benczkowski. "It's not just a red flashing light, it will be a red-yellow-green light that people will be able to see more readily, other than just a flashing light that turns red."
The state is providing $150,000 toward the light. The town will cover $133,000 in engineering and construction costs.
