BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Just two weeks away, the NHL trade deadline looms for the Buffalo Sabres once again this year. Sellers in each of the last few seasons, Buffalo figures to sell rather than buy once again this time around.

All eyes should be on Jamie McGinn, who figures to be the best trade bait Buffalo has to offer. He’s among the Sabres’ top goal-scorers and because he’s an unrestricted free agent this summer, he’s not guaranteed to return to Buffalo. GM Tim Murray may opt to trade McGinn to receive assets of some kind, as opposed to risking losing him in free agency with nothing to show for it.

Defenseman Mike Weber could also be a viable trade option. He’s the lone Sabre with a plus-rating (minimum 30 games) and has improved his play significantly. He’s joined by David Legwand, Carlo Colaiacovo and Chad Johnson as fellow unrestricted free agents.

The underlying question: Would Murray rather try to re-sign a few of these players rather than trade them? We discuss those options with NHL.com’s Joe Yerdon.
