LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — An outage in Niagara County briefly left more than 2,800 homes without power and closed three Lockport schools Wednesday morning.
Emmet Belknap Intermediate, Roy B. Kelley Elementary and Lockport High Schools all closed Wednesday due to the outage. All other Lockport schools remained open.
The power was restored by NYSEG about an an hour after it went out. Officials later said the outage had been caused by a squirrel which had gotten into power lines in the Chestnut Ridge Road area.
Following the Niagara County outage, around 59 Erie County customers lost power. It was restored later in the morning.
