13-year-old charged after car with 8-month-old in back seat was stolen

Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — A 13-year-old has been charged with grand larceny after Niagara Falls police say they stole a car with a baby inside.

Monday night around 10 p.m., police responded to the Falls City Market at the corner of 19th St. and Ashland Ave. after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle had an eight-month-old child in the back seat.

The father of the child said he left the baby in the running car as he went into the store. When he left the store a few minutes later, the car was no longer there.

Within 20 minutes, police were able to locate the vehicle on the 600 block of 17th St.

The baby, who was unharmed, was reunited with family members.

The father of the baby was cited for leaving an unattended motor vehicle and a car seat violation, police say.

Police say the teen who was charged in this incident stole another car that was left running outside the same store this past Friday.

The teen was given an appearance ticket for Family Court.
