TOWN OF NIAGARA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Investigators are still searching for the cause of a fire that destroyed a large industrial building in the Town of Niagara.
Flames broke out this morning in a two-hundred-foot warehouse owned by Niagara Coating Services on Quarry Road.
Officials say the three closest fire hydrants were not working, so they had to run hoses a half-mile away to a working hydrant, causing a delay in putting out the fire.
“It’s not uncommon. For us, fortunately, it doesn’t happen very often. It could be a number of things. I don’t really want to speculate. The water department for the Town of Niagara did respond. Some may be mechanical. Again, the hydrant that we’re on now has great water flow, so I don’t know if it’s the system itself or some mechanical issues with the hydrants at that time,” Assistant Chief for Niagara Active Hose Adam Hojnacki said.
They’re still trying to determine how much damage the fire caused.
