North Tonawanda man admits to striking man in wheelchair, leaving scene of accident

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A North Tonawanda man has admitted to leaving the scene of an accident after hitting a man in a motorized wheelchair. 

Mark Hicks, 34, of North Tonawanda, pleaded guilty to one count of leaving the scene of a serious injury accident without reporting, a felony. 

According to the Erie County DA's Office, Hicks admitted that he had been driving a pickup truck on Vulcan Street in the Town of Tonawanda around 5:50 p.m. Feb. 16 when he struck a 56-year-old man in a motorized wheelchair. Hicks then left the scene. 

The victim spent several weeks in ECMC being treated for injuries to his head and chest. 

Hicks faces a maximum of four years in jail when he's sentenced Oct. 11. He remains in custody on $10,000 cash or $25,000 bond.
