The Zebb’s Deluxe Grill and Bar in Orchard Park has closed.
The restaurant’s manager said Monday was the final day of business for the Zebb’s located on Southwestern Boulevard.
Employees say Zebb’s closed without warning.
Lights off, doors locked, and a note left behind – that’s how the employees at Zebb’s in Orchard Park were greeted when they showed up for work Monday.
“Staff may pick up their checks on Friday between 10 and 3 and or other belongings that was it. It was shut down. We no longer had jobs,” said Ryan Cannan.
Ryan Cannan has been a server at Zebb’s for almost 8 years.
She says employees, even the general manager, were all blindsided.
“No warning, no phone, no nothing. They closed shop Sunday night at 10 like a normal shift and that was the last time Zebb’s was to be open,” said Cannan.
Several customers were also shocked to hear the news Tuesday.
“It’s terrible a place like this that’s been open for years and it’s closed now. You know it’s horrible for the employees that work here, I mean what are they going to do with their families and everything else. It’s not right,” said David LaTona, a customer.
Zebb’s has other locations in Syracuse and in Amherst both of which are still open.
The general manager at the one on Niagara Falls Boulevard says he was told the Orchard Park one closed due to it “under performing.”
“When I came it was always people in there,” said LaTona.
Cannan says no matter the reason for closing, how it happened bothers her the most.
“I have a family, I have a daughter to raise, she has to go to school. School starts in two weeks. Just no thought to anything. It’s not right you can’t treat people that way,” said Cannan.
There are more than 25 employees without a job due to this closure. News 4 is told the owner and district manager tried to keep that location open, but were losing money so closing was the last resort.
The general manager at Zebb’s in Amherst says there’s no indication that any other locations are closing.
