Pre-storm shoppers don’t always go for the staples

Local News

Many Western New Yorkers are prepping for the Winter Weather on the way.

News 4 checked in with officials at the TOPS Friendly Market on Maple Road in Amherst to see how they get ready for the influx of shoppers.

A common sterotype for pre-storm purchases are staples like bread, milk, and batteries.

But as it turns out, people often buy goodies for themselves to hunker down and brave the storm.

“We also see those indulgent items that people seem to want to pick up on because they are going to be hunkering down — watching netflix this weekend. Things like chips, pop, beer, some ice cream,” said TOPS Public Relations manager Kathy Sautter.

Officials with TOPS said they try to stay open, no matter the weather, in case anyone is willing to brave the cold to get what they need.
