BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)–Today marks the anniversary of one of the biggest storms to ever come through Western New York.

We’re talking about the October surprise storm. It all started 14 years ago on October 12th, 2006.
Heavy, wet snow brought down power lines, trees and so much more.

Thousands of people were left without power for weeks. Tens of thousands of trees were damaged or destroyed.

And many schools in our area were closed for at least a week.
