BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Justin Bailey grew up rooting for the Buffalo Sabres. Now he plays for them, making his home debut Friday night against the Montreal Canadiens.

Bailey has played at First Niagara Center before, however. It’s just been a long time.

“I was eight or nine and and it was pretty cool getting on the ice,” Bailey said. “The coolest thing was how loud the board were when you’d bang into them so we guys trying to hit guys to make the noise off the boards.”

Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma was impressed with Bailey’s debut in Philadelphia, where he registered 7 shots.

“I would love to see him duplicate exactly how he played last night,” Bylsma said Friday morning. “What you saw last night is how he has been playing. Speed up the wing, forcing teams with that speed and size and I think the biggest thing in his game is his ability to play down low.”

Bailey played high school hockey for Canisius. He’ll wear number 56 for the Sabres.
