Schumer asking state to reconsider closing veterans' health center

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Sen. Chuck Schumer is calling on state officials to reconsider closing a local veterans' outpatient health center.

Last month, the Veteran Affairs Adult Day Care Center on Sheridan Dr. announced it was closing its doors.

The center in the Northtown Plaza is set to be demolished.

According to Sen. Schumer, the center sees nearly 40 patients per day.

In a letter to the state, Schumer urged the VA to consider an alternate plan for the veterans, like moving the center to another location in Amherst or a surrounding town.
