New York State’s Education Commissioner says she’s watching the measles outbreak downstate closely.

Commissioner Maryellen Elia stopped in Buffalo to deliver opening remarks at the UB graduate school leadership initiative.

She addressed several issues affecting New York schools including the measles outbreak affecting schools downstate.

Even though students are not legally required to be vaccinated, Elia says it’s important all students are vaccinated before going to school.
