Summertime #IntheBUF: Visit Buffalo Niagara hosts Instagram contest for “ultimate staycation”

This summer, your photos with Shark Girl or shots of Niagara Falls could win you some big prizes. 

Visit Buffalo Niagara is hosting its first ever “Ultimate Staycation #IntheBuf” for WNY residents through the end of July.

“We have found that Buffalonians are really our best ambassadors,” Patrick Kaler, president and CEO of Visit Buffalo Niagara said. 

The nine-week contest started last month, and since then, VBN has received about 83 photos per day, Kaler said. 

“We’re really excited about the engagement we’ve had so far,” he added. 

To enter, WNYers simply have to post a photo taken somewhere in the area with the hashtag #IntheBUF to Instagram. 

A winner will be selected each week to be entered into the contest for a grand prize, which is valued at about $5,000. It includes about 50 gifts from local attractions, $716 in certificates to Walden Galleria stores, and a free walking tour for 10 from Explore Buffalo. 

It also includes free ice cream for a month from Churn and the chance to name a drink on Lloyd Taco Factory’s cocktail list in the fall season. 

“Each quarter Lloyd creates a new cocktail menu and there’s usually about three or four new cocktails, so it’ll be one of those,” Ally Balcerzak, marketing manager for Lloyd and Churn said. 

The images submitted in the contest may be used in future marketing by Visit Buffalo Niagara, Kaler said. 

“We’re always looking for ways to increase our photo library and this is a great way to do it,” Kaler said. “We’re utilizing locals to tell that story for us.”
