Lockdown at Sweet Home High School lifted, no evidence of gunshot found

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Sweet Home High School briefly went into lockdown on Thursday afternoon.

Around 2:10 p.m., the school went into lockdown after a student thought she heard a gunshot in the parking lot.

After further questioning, the student said that she actually witnessed a flash and heard a loud noise, but could not "definitively" describe it as a gunshot.

Amherst Police responded to the area, but could not find evidence of a gun being discharged.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the entire school was also checked with negative results," a press release from Amherst Police said Thursday afternoon.

Students will be released with police supervision.

Anyone with information on this is asked to call Amherst police at (716) 689-1311.
