BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Erie County DA announced today 20-year-old Dalene McIlwain will spend 12 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision for her involvement in the robbery and murder of Upender Bawa, 79 of Buffalo back in 2016.
McIlwain pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery in April of 2017 for her role in the incident that took place at Bawa's apartment above the Taste of Life restaurant on Sycamore Street.
She was the last of three co-defendants to be sentenced. The other two learned their sentencings last spring and last summer.
Her co-defendant, Jamell Chapman 27 of Niagara Falls pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for the attack on Bawa and is serving 24 years in prison.
32-year-old Shanita Chapman of Buffalo, the second co-defendant pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted robbery and is serving three and a half years in prison.
