Town of Tonawanda Police identify deceased in fatal I-290 crash as 40-year-old tourist from Pakistan

A deadly accident shut down part of I-290 for hours early Monday morning. 

The crash happened around 1 a.m., and closed the westbound lanes from Niagara Falls Boulevard to Colvin Boulevard. 

According to Town of Tonawanda Police, Hamad Mir, a 40-year-old tourist from Pakistan, lost control of his vehicle, causing it to strike the guardrail on the right side of the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Three children in the vehicle were taken to Oishei Children’s Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. An elderly woman in the vehicle was taken to Buffalo General Hospital for upper body pain, and another adult female passenger was uninjured. 

The Brighton Volunteer Fire Department assisted the Town of Tonawanda Police Department and Paramedics at the scene, 

The accident remains under investigation.
