Two graduating seniors at North East Carolina Preparatory School in Tarboro have each received over $1.2 million in college scholarships.

Valedictorian Xin Chen was accepted into 22 institutions and awarded $1,329,800 in scholarships.

Salutatorian Marco Cisneors-Silva was accepted into 34 institutions and was awarded $1,222,624 in scholarships.

NECP school counselor Amy Robinette said Chen and Cisneors-Silva each worked hard to choose the right college for them.

“Knowing that it was important for Xin and Marco to maximize their options for higher education and to relieve the financial burdens on their families, I encouraged them to research colleges that might be of interest and to submit applications often. The goal was never to earn scholarships; it was to find the best college fit for these seniors,” Robinette said.

Both Chen and Cisneors-Silva have committed to attend North Carolina State University this fall.

The NECP Class of 2019 includes 45 seniors who earned a collective $4.8 million in scholarships.
