Two off-duty Lancaster Police officers were on a fishing boat involved in a crash that took the life of a Lancaster School District teacher over the weekend.
The boat struck a breakwall near the Outer Harbor Saturday night, killing Eric Przykuta.
The officers, Shaun Zaffram and Michael Cronin, are distraught over what happened, Lancaster Police Chief Gerald Gill said.
Cronin, who has been with the Lancaster Police since 1995, was driving the boat Saturday, Chief Gill said. Gill said that Cronin is extremely skilled on the water.
The two off-duty officers were rescued from the break wall shortly after Cronin's boat struck it Saturday night. Multiple agencies searched for Pryzutka for hours.
The Coast Guard found his body early Sunday morning. He was not wearing a life jacket.
Buffalo homicide detectives are investigating Pryzutka's cause of death.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation.
Chief Gill said neither officer has been placed on administrative leave and are continuing to work.
Pryzutka leaves behind a wife and two children.
His funeral will be held Saturday in the Lancaster High School auditorium.
