UB Women’s Basketball star Cierra Dillard visits Kids Escaping Drugs campus

Local News

UB Women’s Basketball star Cierra Dillard is just days away from the start of WNBA training camp, but before she leaves the Queen City she stopped at the Kids Escaping Drugs campus in West Seneca.

She brought with her some items to give to the facility for an upcoming auction they’re holding, which includes shoes she played in the NCAA Tournament in.

“I didn’t have everything growing up. I saw the poverty, I’ve seen the drugs, I’ve seen being a statistic, and making it out… that was my biggest goal. And I see the kids… they have the same dreams too, they have the same dreams and aspirations to do the same thing that I do. All they’re looking for is the opportunity. I just want to tell them, ‘you can get that opportunity if you work hard, you dedicate yourself, there are things you’re going to have to sacrifice, but if you want that dream, you can get that opportunity as well,” said Dillard.

The soon to be Minnesota Lynx player also brought a signed picture of the UB that went to the sweet sixteen two years and a shirt she wore then which says “reclaim in advance.” Dillard said that particular saying in perfect for these kids.

She said her time in Buffalo has been incredible and tells everyone at any age to follow your dream.
