BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Meals on Wheels program is checking in on the elderly while the temperatures are high.
Judy Marine and her grandson, Patrick, stopped by a handful of homes Wednesday morning with a hot meal, cool juice, and caring mindsets.
“Sometimes we’re the only people who see them on a daily basis,” says Marine, who has been a Meals on Wheels volunteer for 25 years.
During the heat rush, Marine says it is imperative to stop in and check on the elderly.
“We make sure their apartment isn’t too hot,” says Marine, who is also a Registered Nurse. “I make sure they’re drinking enough water; putting the shades down if it is really hot and the sun is coming in.”
Marine says checking in on the elderly on – whether in person or giving them a quick call – can save lives.
