Fifty-three World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans have taken the trip of a lifetime thanks to the Buffalo-Niagara Honor Flight organization.
In a whirlwind day, they flew for free to and from Washington, D.C. to see the memorials erected in their honor. For the first time, veterans from Potter and McKean counties in Pennsylvania were also able to join the trip.
News 4 photographer Greg Garrett traveled with the veterans as they visited the World War II Memorial, the Memorial for Korean War Veterans, the Women in Service of the American Military Memorial, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and other sites.
News 4 reporter Katie Alexander shows us what this Honor Flight experience meant to the veterans with special reports on News 4 Wake Up and News 4 at 6 p.m. Friday.
The next Honor Flight mission will be in October 2019.
