DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) — There will be no Chautauqua County Fair this year.

Fair officials say the cancellation is “due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, its impact on community health and well-being.”

Fair Board President Dave Wilson says “We are heartbroken for the small businesses, family farms, competitors, exhibitors and everyone who rely on the income and exposure the Chautauqua County Fair brings them.”

This isn’t the fair’s first cancellation. The fairgrounds were used as a prisoner of war camp for German, Japanese and Italian people from 1942 to 1944, while America was in the middle of World War II.

If conditions are safe, the next fair will take place from July 19-25 next year.
