BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — On Sunday, more than 4,600 people hit the pavement at the Buffalo Marathon and Half Marathon.
Aileen Hoak-Lange, of Colden, came in second place for the women’s 35-39 category in the marathon. But there’s a case to be made that she actually earned two medals for her effort…
Hoak-Lange ran the race in two hours and 53 minutes with a baby on board!
She says she was nervous at first, but after her doctor gave her the ‘all-clear,’ Hoak-Lange was in it to win it.
Hoak-Lange says she didn’t expect to be running for two, as she just found out about the good news two weeks ago.
“I’m ecstatic, because now I know I can continue to run and be healthy doing it, and it’s kind of great because it’s kind of like a six-month pregnancy, because I didn’t know about the first three months,” Hoak-Lange said. “So, it’s going to fly by.”
This was her fifth marathon. She says this wasn’t her fastest time, but she was still happy with it. Aileen went on to say that while she would love to celebrate with few cold brews, she’ll have to settle for “pizza, a cheeseburger and a chocolate milkshake.”
