BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — It was a big day for the News 4 sports department.

Each month during the school year, we introduce you to a male and female scholar-athlete.

On Wednesday, we had a chance to congratulate all of them, and name the winners of the $1,500 Scholar-Athlete of the Year scholarships.

The female winner was Jenna Crean, from Orchard Park High School.

“I have my state meet this weekend, so I’m looking to experience that, and love every moment of it” Crean said. “And just be with all of my friends and really take in all the blessings I have been given in the last five years of doing track. After that, I’m going to be training all summer and heading off to college.”

The male Scholar-Athlete of the Year was Benjamin Mooney, from Franklinville High School.

“I’m excited for the next step,” Mooney said. “I’m excited to go to Penn State to continue my studies. Sports are done for me. I’m not going to do them in college, but I’m excited to keep watching them and one day hope to be in front of a microphone calling a sports game.”

The Scholar-Athlete program is sponsored by Transitowne.
