Man accused of menacing deputies in Springville arraigned

News

A Cattaraugus County man has been arraigned on charges of menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors say Nicholas Krencik, 34, of Ashford, came into a Country Fair store in Springville with a loaded, sawed-off shotgun this past August.

Officials say that as he exited the store that night, he was ordered by Erie County Sheriff’s deputies to drop his weapon, but he instead continued to approach them.

One of the deputies then shot him in the abdomen.

Krencik was taken to ECMC for surgery.

Following his court appearance, Krencik was remanded without bail. If convicted, he could spend up to 15 years in prison.
