The Orleans County Sheriff’s Department said 71-year-old Robert Arnett was located Sunday morning and is deceased.
The Sheriff’s Department said Arnett’s body was found in a pond in his neighborhood in Barre.
Undersheriff Christopher Bourke said the department received a call Friday at 10:15 p.m. notifying them Arnett went missing from his home on Quaker Hill Road in the Town of Barre. Crews were out searching for much of the weekend.
The Sheriff’s Department said that Arnett was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
A state police dive team was getting ready to search the pond and was doing a walk through on Sunday morning when they found Arnett’s body a short distance from shore in shallow water.
“It’s not the outcome we were looking for. We were hoping we would get a phone call that Mr. Arnett had showed up somewhere, but at least it brings closure to the family.” said Orleans County Undersheriff Christopher Bourke.
The Sheriff’s Department said there were 175 volunteer firefighters on Sunday that turned out to help with the search.
