You always hear teams say its tough to beat a team three times in one season.

After sweeping Monmouth during the regular season, it was the 6th seeded Hawks besting 2nd seeded Canisius 73-59, ending the NCAA hopes of the Griffs in the Metro Atlantic semifinals on Sunday.

With the loss, the Griffs fall to 15-17 overall.

Buffalo native Takal Molson led Canisius with 17 points, while Jalanni White chipped in with 11 and Malik Johnson 10.

Monmouth, which started the season 0-12, will face No. 1 Iona or No. 5 Sienna with a chance to secure the MAAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
