CBS NEWS - A new device aims to turn your cell phone into a stun gun.
Yellow Jacket Case, based in New Orleans, has created a device which turns a phone into a weapon in case of attack.
"It's not just the case, it's also an app that we're currently beta testing," said president and co-founder of Yellow Jacket Case Chris Zavala. "Flip the switch and the prongs will come out, it'll automatically start recording, when you fire the stun gun, the safety has to be off, it will it will drop a locator pin of where you are."
Zavala says that in many scenarios, someone always has a phone.
Law enforcement expert Robert Allen with Tulane University weighed in on the device.
""My biggest concern is proximity, it only works if an attacker is touch you, and you want to create distance," Allen said.
The product first surfaced in 2013 as part of a start-up company.
Since then, it's been redesigned to be more powerful, offering 5 to 7 milli amps in a zpa.
The detachable stun gun and phone case starts at $80 for an iPhone 6 model.
"It recharges your phone, and always saves power for the stun gun,"
