Firefighters in California face Verizon data issues

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (WIVB) - Firefighters in northern California say they were hampered by Verizon throttling their mobile data service.

They're battling the largest wildfire in state history.

The Santa Clara Fire Department says a representative called Verizon to report the problem while fighting the Mendocino Complex fire.

They told the department that it needed to switch to a higher data plan at more than twice the cost.

Verizon blames a customer service mistake.
