ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (via WJHL) — Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife were not injured in a plane crash Thursday at an airport in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

The airport manager says it was a private plane that went off the end of the runway and caught fire. He says all passengers are out of the plane.

Earnhardt’s injuries were described as just cuts and abrasions. The sheriff said Earnhardt’s wife and child were also on the plane, along with a pilot, one other passenger, and a family dog.

Earnhardt Jr. topped the heights of the auto racing world before his recent retirement.
