CELORON, N.Y. (WIVB)- A new Lucille Ball statue was unveiled near Jamestown on Saturday to the applause of the large crowd that gathered.
The tribute has been nine months in the making.
Sculptor Carolyn Palmer said she was inspired by Lucy’s liveliness and fun character. She told News 4 she spent a lot of time making Lucy’s face glamorous and even included details like the polka dots on the dress.
As you remember, the “Scary Lucy” statue was created in 2009 and created a buzz on social media. A replacement campaign was launched to raise money for the newer, friendlier Lucy statue.
“We can put this behind us now, we can have new history,” said Celeron Mayor Scott Schrecengost. “We’ve got the old history we’ve still got mounted here in the park, we still have people coming from all over to see it and now they can come and see both statues.”
