Scientists discover world’s oldest fossil in New York

Around New York State

CAIRO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Researchers found a fossilized root system at the bottom of an abandoned quarry in Greene County, about 40 miles south of Albany.

They even found fish fossils near the largest trees.

Scientists believe a catastrophic flood killed most of the trees in the forest and preserved the root system as fossils.
