The 800 block of Tonawanda Street was closed between Royal Avenue and Saratoga Street Tuesday evening for reports of at least one manhole blowing off.
At least 300 National Grid residents were without power at one point on Tuesday evening.
National Grid crews were on the scene, as well as Buffalo Police and Buffalo Fire.
National Grid says there was a splice in some underground lines that opened up. This caused the splice to heat up.
Because of the heat and smoke, the manhole dislodged.
