Queens man pleads guilty to using stolen credit cards to purchase electronics

A Queens man has pleaded guilty to stealing credit cards from locker rooms at various fitness and aquatic centers in Western New York. 

George Piha, 51, pleaded guilty in Erie County Court to three counts of first degree identity theft, two counts of third degree burglary, and one count of scheme to defraud. 

According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, Piha admitted to entering the locker rooms between Feb. 27 and July 12, stealing the cards, and using them to purchase high-end electronics at Apple and Best Buy stores. 

Piha spent a total of over $95,000 in fraudulent purchases. 

He faces a maximum of 35 years in prison when he’s sentenced Dec. 11.
