A major chunk of state funding is going toward a jail-based drug treatment and transition services program in Erie County.

State Sen. Chris Jacobs announced the program, which is designed to speed up access to treatment for those in jail who are struggling with addiction.

Another goal is to reduce the chances of those inmates becoming repeat offenders.

Officials say the program has seen success, but funding they had before could only go so far.
