New York State Police engaged in a chase with a suspect through Lockport Monday afternoon.

According to state police, troopers initiated a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle at 2:25 p.m. Monday on Transit Road in Lockport.

The vehicle failed to comply and drove off, with the driver throwing something out of the window. State police described it as a “cloud of money.”

The vehicle crashed on Bunker Hill Road, at which point the suspect exited the vehicle and went into an unknown area, state police said.

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, Niagara County Aviation Unit, and NYSP drone searched for the suspect.

A state police bloodhound tracked the suspect to a residence on Bunker Hill Road, where the suspect was located.

The suspect, who was identified as 23-year-old Buffalo resident Christopher Matyjakowski, was taken to ECMC.

Officials say he had been in possession of counterfeit $100 bills. THe money was located and collected on State Rd.

After being arraigned on multiple charges, including criminal possession of a forged instrument and unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, Matyjakowski was remanded to the Niagara County Jail on $5,000 bail.
