Taylor Swift has donated $113,000 to the Tennessee Equality Project, the organization said Monday.
TEP released a statement thanking Swift for her donation.
Taylor Swift has been a long-time ally to the LGBTQ community. She sees our struggle in Tennessee and continues to add her voice with so many good people, including religious leaders, who are speaking out for love in the face of fear. Tennessee Equality Project is honored and grateful to reveal Taylor Swift has made a donation of $113,000 to support our efforts at this critical moment.”
TEP also posted a picture of the note Swift sent along with her donation.
Swift has been more involved in politics. She got behind former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean when he ran for Governor last fall against Bill Lee.
Her donation comes as a bill allowing faith-based adoption agencies to deny parents based on their religious beliefs.
Language in it “prohibits a private licensed child-placing agency from being required” to “participate in any child placement for foster care or adoption that would violate the agency’s written religious or moral convictions.”
Many LGBTQ advocates have said the bill specifically targets Gay couples.
