Zachary Messing, 18, will spend time in state prison after dropping a garbage can on a tourist in Niagara Falls.

Police say he was on an upper floor of a parking ramp last August when he and another teen dropped a three and a half foot plastic trash can. The can struck a 50-year-old woman, fractured her collarbone and caused head injury.

Messing later pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment.

He was denied youthful offender status and will serve two and one-third to seven years in prison.
