BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A former teacher wants to make sure no student has to start the school year without the supplies they need.
The Teacher’s Desk located at 22 Northampton Street, off of Main Street in Buffalo, is loaded with books, paper, pencils and a lot more.
The supplies are all donated.
The Teacher’s Desk donated about five million dollars in supplies in 2015 and is expected to give away even more this year.
“The favorite comment from a teacher is no matter what time of year it is, it’s a lot like Christmas, and that’s why you hear in the background Christmas music. We decided this year to play that all the time, volunteers aren’t huge on it, but the teachers love it,” said John Mika, founder of the Teacher’s Desk.
Last year more than five thousand teachers from more than 180 schools shopped there for free.
