(WIVB) — A third case of the mumps has been confirmed in Livingston County.
The Health Department is working with the state and a local school district to investigate.
Mumps is spread through the air and can’t be treated.
Livingston County’s health department says two doses of the mumps vaccine is the best protection against the disease, even though it is not 100 percent effective.
Nationwide, the officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the number of reported cases is down after a large spike in 2016 and 2017.
