A tractor-trailer overturned on I-190 in Grand Island Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Grand Island Fire Company, the accident occurred around 2:24 p.m. on I-190 North near the Whitehaven Road exit.
The truck was traveling northbound when it blew a front tire, causing the driver to lose control of the truck and overturn into the median, according to Captain John Podlucky of the Grand Island Fire Company.
The truck then crossed the median and ended up in the southbound lanes of the thruway, losing a load of tires that it was hauling in the truck.
The driver self-extricated from the vehicle, was evaluated by EMT’s, and was transported by Twin City Ambulance to ECMC. The GIFC also contained a small fuel leak- less than one gallon- coming from the truck.
The scene has been turned over to New York State Police.
