The murder of a college student who mistakenly got into a vehicle she thought was her uber ride had ridesharing companies renewing safety efforts.
Uber will start a social media campaign for rider safety.
The company says it will buy ads in college newspapers and start sending push alerts to remind passengers about safety. Uber recommends riders to check the driver’s photo and vehicle description against what is sent when the trip is requested.
Lyft says some of its vehicles have colored dashboard displays to help identify the ride.
