Kerely was signed by the Bills in April to provide depth and leadership at the position.
The move now leaves the Bills with only Kelvin Benjamin, Zay Jones, Andre Holmes, Ray-Ray McCloud and Robert Foster.
In the season opening 47-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Kerley had two receptions for seven yards.
Thomas has played in 24 NFL games, including 15 with the New York Giants last season.
