ORCHARD PARK,NY (WIVB) - Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott announced that quarterback Josh Allen has a sprained elbow and will not play Sunday against the Colts. Newly signed quarterback Derek Anderson will start in Allen's place.
Allen is listed as week-to-week and McDermott said, " there is no plan at this point for surgery, but he will be out this week and with that, Derek Anderson will be our starter."
McDermott had this to say about Anderson,"Derek's a guy who I've been around in Carolina, he brings experience, leadership presence to the table and he's worked hard the last week and a half here to get himself up to speed."
"It's only going to get better as we move forward, he got reps in the walk through and he'll get reps this afternoon. He's got experience with Kelvin (Benjamin)already, just from Carolina already, and experience with the system to some extent as well and that will continue to progress as we move forward," McDermott added about his choice to start Anderson.
When asked if the possibility of losing the locker room if he started Peterman this week went into his decision, McDermott responded, "No, I'm always going to do what I think is best for this football team, I certainly trust and have a lot of respect for our locker room, so with that, I'm always going to do what I think is best for this football team."
In other injury news, running back Taiwan Jones will not practice Wednesday, defensive end Trent Murphy abd guard Vlad Ducasse will be limited in practice. Defensive tackle Kyle Williams and linebacker Lorenzo Alexander were given a veteran's day off from practice.
