PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WROC) - The countdown is on at St. John Fisher College with two weeks remaining until the Buffalo Bills return for their annual training camp.
Director of Camp Operations Todd Harrison says preparations for this year's camp are ahead of schedule. With 2018 being Harrison's second year working with Bills head coach Sean McDermott, the familiarity in place will make camp run even smoother.
"You can start to anticipate what the needs are," said Harrison. "There's not only the ability to anticipate what the coach and the whole staff wants, but there's been a relationship developed with the staff members themselves that support that operation."
The field on the Polisseni Track and Field has been replaced, and some of the hospitality areas have been rearranged to account for McDermott's preference to practice on grass.
When former team president Russ Brandon resigned in May, concerns grew about the future of the Bills in Rochester. Co-owner Kim Pegula then issued a statement reiterating the team's commitment to St. John Fisher. As for the college, Harrison says they did not believe their relationship with the Bills was in danger.
"I read those same stories and comments, and never one time have I been given any indication that there is unhappiness or the consideration of leaving," said Harrison. "Whether that is conversations with anybody we have in the organization on the coaching staff, on the football side, on the business development side, when Russ was here, anybody from the organization, they've all indicated that Mr. and Mrs. Pegula and the staff is all perfectly content on campus and this is where they'd like to be. It's a major part of their operation and that Coach McDermott likes to get away for a couple weeks, so we as an institution have been given no reason to be anything but perfectly confident and comfortable with where they are."
The first practice at St. John Fisher College is schedule for 5:30pm on Thursday, July 26th.
