BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB)- All eyes will be on the quarterback competition but that’s not the only big storyline to keep an eye on as the Bills begin training camp on Thursday at St. John Fisher. Here’s a look at the top 3 things I will be watching (starting at QB of course):
1. The top storyline is actually the headline of training camp… Josh Allen. How quickly will the rookie quarterback grasp the offense? He never seemed overwhelmed during OTA’s and minicamp but how will he respond when the heat gets turned up at St. John Fisher? Allen will get every opportunity to prove he can lead the Bills offense but will he be ready to take the reigns week one.
2. At wide receiver the Bills have Kelvin Benjamin and then a bunch of question marks. Zay Jones didn’t do much to inspire fans during his rookie season and had a strange offseason, you could say. The team brought in veteran Jeremy Kerley and Andre Holmes returns. The rookies will get their chance to prove they can make an impact but will Ray-Ray McCloud, Austin Proehl, or Cam Phillips take advantage of the opportunity.
3. Will the Bills do a better job of stopping the run this season? Last year they ranked 29th in the NFL allowing 124 yards per game on the ground. They focused on that issue this offseason adding free agents Star Lotulelei and Trent Murphy and drafting Harrison Phillips in the 3rd round. Will that investment along the defensive line pay off?
