Eichel, USA knocked out while Reinhart advances to semis with Canada

Jack Eichel’s time at the World Championships in Slovakia have come to a close.

The United States was eliminated from the tournament with a 4-3 loss to Russia, which advances to the semifinals.

The Sabres’ centerman was on the ice for two of Russia’s four goals, and finished with five total shots in the game.

South Buffalo native Patrick Kane picked up two assists in the loss.  He assisted on Brady Skjei’s tally in the second period to pull the American’s within 2-1.  Kane added the second on Alex DeBrincat’s goal in the final minutes of the third period as the United States closed to within 4-3.


Mark Stone scored the overtime winner against Switzerland, sending the Canadians to the semifinals of the World Championships with a 3-2 win.

Canada, which trailed 2-1 in the final seconds, kept its Gold Medal hopes alive with a last second goal from Damon Severson in regulation.

Sabres winger Sam Reinhart had two shots on goal in 17:46 of ice time.
